H1N1 Flu shot

I got a (recorded of course) phone call from my childs schools tonight. Something about a flu shot. to just sign the consent forms and send it back with my children, to their campuses..

Not sure I'm going along with this...

I wont get the papers till tommorow. But its for the H1N1.

Has anyone dealt with anything like this??

It isn;t mandatory, and I am not getting it, the kid is not getting it.
Really, if you are healthy the H1N1 is not any different from the normal flu, other than the headache, and the puking.
We "might" get the flu shot, and only because Xman is little.

I don't do "new"( read ANY) vaccines until people stop dying from them....no Gardasil here either.

I'm a big believer in vaccines, but in this case I'd say to talk to Bow's Dr to make sure that he's not considered at risk because of being a toddler and blow it off for the bigger kids. Right now, swine flu has been less deadly than regular old flu. I had it and it's not fun, but not something a healthy person should panic over. It was like regular flu, but with a kick. If I had someone in the family with cancer or chronic emphysema or AIDS, I would for sure be worried about it. But unless you're holding out on me, that's not the case for you guys. And if you do get the flu, you have access to medical care. It might be expensive, but in a true emergency you could go to the hospital.

I know a lot of people who get the flu shots every year but I can't say as I see the point when they are simply making a best guess about which particular strain you'll be exposed to.

no vacines in this household, neither of us had ever had one, neither of us has gotten the flu, nor had to deal with side effects !

Okay, I have read enough.... THere is NO WAY IN HELL we are getting this vaccinne. OMG!

And Karen, Bow is the only one who wouldnt get it. The school is giving it. LOL but I dont worry about him really at all. He still wont wean. So he has his own immune system plus mine. LOL

I was pretty sure that we werent going to do the shot when I got the call. But have NEVER seen the schools give out a shot before.. I am not liking it at all.


But I have been researching this. OMG. There is NO WAY that I am going to allow my children to get something that the govt says "we will be monitering all recipeints of the vaccine for side effects" WTF?

and I found this: The World Health Organization has declared that H1N1 vaccines by Novartis and Baxter will contain Squalene. There is also evidence that neurologists around the world were warned by WHO and CDC to be prepared for signs of Guillain-Barré syndrome as a result of toxic amounts of adjuvants such as Squalene, thimerosal (mercury) and aluminum in the 2009 H1N1 Vaccine.

we have never gotten vacinnes for the flu, sometimes my kids get it, sometimes they dont. Heck, I might have it right now. but, it just feels like a lingering headcold at the most, major case of alergy attack at the worst. Either way, its not worth the risks in my eyes.

Not to take away from the topic at hand, but I was just reading off of yahoo news from London, England whereby a 14 year old girl died from the HPV vaccine.

Why are you guys first? I haven't heard a thing about the offering it in school around here. All the drug stores are going to have clinics but we wont be getting any from anywhere. We (all but Rylan) may get the regular flu vaccines but we have almost every year. ( I was a nurse so I have always been fully vaccinated) I don't get why in schools?
didn't you guys do that with Gardisil too? I remember hearing on the news that TX wanted to make it mandatory and hand it out at school. That is scary. I, like Erin, do my homework on all of them, and completely avoid new ones. Particularly ones that are rushed in a couple of months. I think someone is more concerned with making money than our kids growing three heads.

Death is a rare side effect of all vaccines Trax. That one in particular has some pretty bad side effects that no one talks about, they coast right past them and say oh well you might run a mild fever for a day or so. No mention that it only protects against a couple of strains of HPV and the shot itself can be more deadly than the cancer. And it's only just begun, it's still relatively new who knows what sort of long term effects it may have on kids getting it.

I saw Squalene, and Thimerosal and was done.....too scary.
I know someone who had Guillain-Barré , and that is NOT something I will mess with. Would rather have the flu again.

I was reading about the past attempt at an h1n1 vaccine and those people who had died of it decades ago,Guillain-Barré syndrome as adbson mentioned,paralysis,death,they haven't even tested this vaccine,they are using us a guinea pigs.No way will anyone I know take it if I get my say

just a side note about the girl who died after receiving the HPV vaccine, which has not been proven to be a result of the getting the vaccine. She was given the Cervarix vaccine not Gardisil.

There are over 40 types of HPV, however the vaccine protects against the 4 most common types that cause cervical cancer and gential warts. Types 16 and 18 cause 7 out of 10 cases of cervical cancer. Types 6 and 11 cause 9 out of 10 cases of gential warts.


I haven't gotten it yet as its a bit expensive, but i fully intend on getting it. I could still possibly get cervical cancer, but to know I'm protected from the most common ones is enough for me to want to get it. I don't think it should be forced on anybody and I can understand why its reccommended at such a early age.

A friend of my oldest DD is in a catatonic state, as a direct result of Gardasil, She began having seizures within 15 minutes of the shot, and stopped breathing. Another of DD"S friends died 3 days after the vaccine, no apparent reason, only thing they can figure is the vaccine or something in it.
Wouldn't practicing safe sex protest against HPV also? And other things?

I asked Bay's Pulmonologist about the H1N1 vaccine at her appt today. He said he was not getting it for his kids, and even with her RAD( reactive airway disease/seasonal asthma) he would not recommend it. That's all I Need. I saw my Cousins DH when he had GUillian barre, don't want that..


I just really wish the CDC would test things longer, better, and maybe differently. It isn't the first time, and it won't be the last. MY Mother took DES when she was PG with me, chances are I could get cancer, She also took Benedictin, glad I don't have webbed fingers.

It is not only the poor girl in england that died of the vaccine,there are at least 11 cases in the US that I had to search on the net for, you don't hear about it in the news. Cause is usually unknown and it happens from the same day until about 2 weeks after the vaccine is administered.I'm sure there are more cases unreported by doctors and emergency rooms to the FDA or wherever they are supposed to be reported

I'm with you on that one. Caly had it with no reactions. I know that people say that safe sex would have the same benefits, and it would... but not all sex is consentual. I know too many women who were raped to think that it could never happen. And if you got cancer because of a rape it would just be beyond reason.

I know that some vaccines aren't safe for everyone. But the vast majority are far safer than not getting the vaccine.
