How did you celebrate?

Post by thebigscott on Sun Jul 05, 2009 8:40 am

For us, it was a small cookout (extended family only) and a trip to the fireworks. We had burgers and dogs andbaked beans and salad and watermelon and chips and icecream and sodas.

What did you all do?

I had to work until 9:30p everyday my son was here, so didn't get to spend much time with him. But they picked me up at work last night and we went and watched the fireworks. He and I are photography buffs, we even have the same 35 mm cameras. He had loaded my camera for me and brought it to me. We had fun taking pics of the fireworks, and can't wait to see how they turned out. We may not have gotten any good ones (crossing my fingers), but we had fun doing it.

They are leaving today, and I hate to see them go. Had I been off work, we probably would have had a cookout , but instead we had homemade pizza that Lyndsay made.

I hope your fireworks photos turn out cool, BuzzNut! It's so hard capturing the excitement of fireworks on film.

We had burgers and corn-on-the-cob before DS had to leave for work, so it was a little on the early side. We did stuff around the house (DH mowed, and I bathed the dog and watered all the plants) because today we're going down to visit our other son in the Grand Rapids area. DH hasn't seen his apartment yet, and we're bringing steaks for a cookout. DH took tomorrow off, so we'll stay the night in GR.

DH and I spent it under a tornado warning. We had rain here, heavy, from about 6:30 until 11pm. Amazingly enough, that didn't stop people in our subdivison from shooting off fireworks which I enjoyed from the safety of the front porch or bathroom and kitchen windows! As for food. Well, since DH had a gall bladder attack this week (4 hours in emergency), we're eating lightly, as in fruit and cottage cheese!

We had a BBq, about 60 people showed up. We had Brisket, chicken, links, beans, tater salad, etc.....and lots of beer.
We did fireworks last night, ..well, the kids did them, we sat and watched.
I ran all the sleepovers out at about 8:30, and started cleaning.

I worked on getting the house picked up (this is a three times daily chore around here. )
THen started the BRisket. BR had to work. My muscles are so sore it was all I could do to pick up the 14 pound brisket. and thats sad.

I had dug ditches and poured concrete earlier in the week . I had to tote and pick up and move nine sacks of 80 lbs of concrete. Not to mention digging about 28 foot of12 inch ditch. BR wasnt home for any of it. and the kids really couldnt help. They manned the gate and kept the hogs from biting me. So I really wanted to take it easy.

Since the belt broke on the vacumm, and we had peas and pea shells, plus the normal crap that accumulates on the carpet, we did it by hand. I swept what I could, then we used the hose on the vaccum to get the rest. that took over 3 hours.
about 1 the kids started hollering that my laundry room was flooded and I went and looked. Sure enough. so I moved the washer and dryer, mopped it up, fixed the drain hose andthen went outside and dealt with the hogs and chickens. (we have more baby chick and quail hatching)

BR came home a little early and on the second load the washer did it again. This time there wasnt as many clothes to catch the water and it flooded into the kitchen. BR screwed a leather strap holding the drain pipe to the wall and reminded me that our closet and bathroom were on the other side. I went and cleaned them out. all the stuff for next weekends garage sale was stacked against those walls.

This time I had help moving the washer and dryer and got it all cleaned out. Finally around 7 we ate Brisket, tater salad and baked beans. crows and coons ate all the melons, and I wont spend 7-15.00 on one. I wastched Grand Torino, Smothered and Lisa Lamponelli till 3am. SO now, I am SORE, tired, and lazy. My mouth is even sore from laughing so dang hard.

we just shot off fireworks in our neighborhood

of course some people in our neighborhood had a malfunction with a firework and a little girl had to go to the hospital

the firework shot right at her and blew up in her face

her face was cut open and she needed stitches

needless to say the cops were called because they were illegal fireworks

i think that the people agreed to pay her hospital bills

but our fireworks were great and we really enjoyed them

it drizzled a little but not enough to keep us from shooting them off

We went to the inlaws for a BBQ and I made a cake cleaned my house for 25 people to come trash it in an hour for Rylan's birthday party. Saige went with my SIL to see fireworks, we skipped them so the baby could go to bed and hopefully remain semi happy through his party.
