Anybody use Paperbackswap?

It's a book trading site. You sign up, post books you want to part with and then find books you want. You do have to pay for shipping, but that usually comes to less than $2.00 a book.

Here is an example. I post 30 books I want to get rid of. Somebody else sees one of my books and decides they want it. I mail the book to them and I get a credit for mailing that book. I can then take that credit and get another book free of charge.

I have been a member for a couple ...

He included a VERY LONG excerpt from the book in pdf form. If anyone is interested, it's over 70 pages long. I'm only on chapter 2, but I like it a lot so far!

Oh, the genre would be crime fiction. There appears to be a serial killer on the loose in a small Canadian town.

Since I heard the author of this book, Christopher McDougall, interviewed on the Bob Edwards Show on PRI, I have not been able to get this out of my mind.
The Pillars of the Earth

From Library Journal

A radical departure from Follett's novels of international suspense and intrigue, this chronicles the vicissitudes of a prior, his master builder, and their community as they struggle to build a cathedral and protect themselves during the tumultuous 12th century, when the empress Maud and Stephen are fighting for the crown of England after the death of Henry I. The plot is less tightly controlled than those in Follett's contemporary works, ...

I've had many people suggest that I read The Shack. I'm about 3/4 into it and am not too excited about it. It's about a little girl who got abducted. Her father blames himself and can't get over it. He gets a message to go to the shack where they found her bloody clothes. He goes and it's changed into "heaven" with Papa (God) the son and holy ghost. Kind of dumb if you ask me.

Now generations have passed, and the Irish have made homes in the new land, but the Gentry still wander homeless on the city streets. Gathering in the shadows, they bide their time and dream of power. As their ...

I didn't exactly pick this book out to read. My girls are in Highland Dance, and their dance teacher told me "You MUST read this book, it's excellent!". Well, 900 pages later (and a month too), it's pretty good, but very graphic. I turned it back in to her, and she had found me almost the entire series of this couple at a garage sale for a quarter a piece (hardbound too!). I heard about the movie being released and when i heard that there was a book about it already out, I beat the masses and borrowed the book from my local library. I fell in love with the story and couldn't wait for the movie to come out!

The basic storyline is that a young man graduates from college in the early 1990's. He decides that he doesn't want to do the "norm" anymore and leaves ...

I thought this section needed a new post so here goes. I received this in an email today.

Subject: Never argue with a woman

One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book.

Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?"

Valtos is an amazing writer. His books are not only enthralling, but filled with information . No matter what the subject, believe me you will not only enjoy the read but learn something at the same time. He handles the most precarious subjects with grace and historical background. Amazing!

I am nearly finished with La Magdalena.. and I am enjoying it every bit as much as The Authenticator. ...
